A new agenda for German Polar Research – an initiative of the German National Comittee SCAR/IASC

In 2012, the National Committee SCAR/IASC (NK SCAR/IASC) has started an initiative to replace the German national programme for Polar Research from 1996 with a new agenda adressing the research questions for the next decade and beyond. This step was motivated by the international efforts to pinpoint future research objectives for the Antarctic (SCAR Horizon Scan) and Arctic (ICARP-III). From within the German National Committee, a team had formed to organize the implementation of a national corresponding programme (G. Heinemann: atmosphere, sea ice; M. Braun: Glaciology; T. Brey: Biology; M. Rhein: Ocean; D. Damaske, M. Melles: Geology). Die Polarforschungsagenda soll als Wegweiser für das kommende Jahrzehnt in der deutschen Polarforschung dienen.
